"Our recent visit and performance at Cardia Landscheiding in Den Haag allowed us to experience a facility that exemplified the very best in senior care. From the moment we arrived, our day was filled with light, warmth, and joy. It is an experience we will not soon forget."

Van Bob & Patty Tatum van de Sound Traveler Band hebben we een mooie reactie gekregen op hun optreden:

"Over the past seven years or so, our musical duo Sound Traveler has performed more than a thousand shows in senior care facilities in five American states – from south Florida to Virginia. During that time, we have experienced some facilities that exhibited very high levels of care and resident involvement.  We have also provided musical programs in some other senior care facilities that we must evaluate much less favorably.  Our recent visit and performance at Cardia Landscheiding in Den Haag allowed us to experience a facility that exemplified the very best in senior care.  From the moment we arrived, our day was filled with light, warmth, and joy.  It is an experience we will not soon forget.

The staff of Cardia Landscheiding welcomed us immediately.  Since we arrived early, Annelies van Markwijk, an energetic and smiling activities director, gave us a tour of the facility.  Annelies has worked at Cardia Landscheiding for over thirty years, and she is clearly proud of her workplace. The staff at Cardia Landscheiding offer many levels of care. Some older residents are vibrant and only deal with age-related physical limitations while others must contend with serious mental deterioration.  But everywhere we went we saw evidences of an institution where residents were content and always treated with respect. We saw areas where memory-care patients walked though hallways with walls and even floors realistically painted with murals of flowers, pets, and beautiful scenery, which is something that we had never seen before – what a nice way to bring the outside to the indoors. We passed through common areas where beautiful vistas of the surrounding grounds were visible through large, clear windows.  We visited gathering spaces where attentive staff gently guided activities specially designed for people whose cognitive functions were compromised. We met with other residents living rich, active lives.  One charming gentleman, Louis, engaged us in conversation and shared his own performance experiences.  Everywhere we went we saw people who seemed to feel at home.

Our performance at Cardia Landscheiding couldn’t have been nicer. The performance room was filled with expectant residents who sang, clapped, and even danced along with our musical program. Annelies supplied our every need, even allowing us to use her guitar so that we were able to plug into the sound system providing enough volume for everyone to easily hear. Kathy Donkersloot provided translations where necessary, and the show rolled for about ninety minutes. At break, everyone was provided with refreshments.  Up With People cast members and Sound Traveler even did a rousing rendition of the Up With People theme song with cast members singing and dancing along to the music we provided."
